What to Know About Epic

How Your Care Is Connected

Peak Vista’s electronic health record system is Epic, launched in 2026 to support how we document and coordinate patient care. Connected to Epic is MyChart(opens in a new tab), our secure patient portal which allows you to view parts of your medical record, review visit information, and communicate with your care team.

This page explains what Epic and MyChart relate to your care at Peak Vista, what you can use it for, and how your information is protected. It is intended to answer common questions and help you understand how Epic supports your care.

Epic is the electronic health record Peak Vista uses to organize and document patient care. It allows your care team to securely store medical information, coordinate across services, and manage appointments and follow-up.

MyChart is the secure online tool connected to Epic. It allows patients to access parts of their health information and communicate with their care team between visits.

Together, Epic and MyChart help:
  • Keep your medical information organized in one secure system.
  • Allow your care team to see consistent information across departments.
  • Provide clearer visit summaries and follow-up instructions.
  • Give you access to certain health information online through MyChart.
You are not required to use MyChart to receive care. However, activating your MyChart account will make communication and follow-up experiences easier.

Why This Matters for You: When your health information is accurate and connected, your care becomes more coordinated and consistent. Access to your information also helps you feel more informed and prepared between visits.

System updates can make small parts of a visit feel unfamiliar at first. During the early months of this Epic transition, staff may take extra care to confirm information and document thoroughly.

You may notice small differences in check-in, documentation, or follow-up communication. These changes are part of ensuring your record remains accurate and complete.

You may notice:
  • Staff confirming your information (e.g., your name, date of birth) more than once.
  • Slightly longer check-in times for MyChart account activations.
  • More detailed visit summaries.
  • Encouragement to activate MyChart.
These steps are designed to improve accuracy and long-term coordination.

Why This Matters for You: Extra verification protects your safety and reduces errors in your medical record. Taking a few additional minutes now helps prevent confusion later.

Privacy, Security, and Billing in the New System

Your medical information is protected under federal privacy laws, including HIPAA regulations. Transitioning to Epic does not reduce your privacy protections – it maintains them within a secure electronic system.

Access to your record is limited to authorized care team members who are directly involved in your care. Security safeguards are in place to monitor access and protect your information from unauthorized viewing.

If you ever believe information in your record is incorrect, you have the right to request a review.
Why This Matters for You: Trust in your care includes trust in how your information is handled. Privacy protections remain a priority at Peak Vista.

Understanding the Update to Epic

Health care systems evolve to improve safety, coordination, and communication. On March 31, 2026, Peak Vista moved to Epic, an electronic health record system that better supports the care you receive at every visit.

This updated system allows your care team to document visits more accurately, share information across services and health centers, and reduce gaps between appointments. While much of this work happens behind the scenes, it directly supports your experience as a patient.

This update helps us:
  • Keep your medical information organized in one secure place.
  • Improve communication and coordination between departments and your care team members.
  • Improve your ability to schedule appointments.
  • Provide clearer visit summaries.
  • Support safer prescribing and follow-up.
Why This Matters for You: When your information is accurate and connected across services, your care becomes more consistent. That consistency reduces delays and helps prevent misunderstandings.

This update is designed to improve care for everyone. It is especially helpful for:
  • Patients managing multiple health conditions.
  • Families coordinating care for children.
  • Patients who see more than one department or visit more than one Peak Vista location.
  • Patients receiving lab work or referrals.
  • Patients who prefer digital access to information.
When information stays connected across services, your care team can respond more effectively.

Why This Matters for You: Coordinated records reduce repeated explanations and improve follow-up. This helps your care feel organized rather than fragmented.
