Carmen M. Gutiérrez is a bilingual, bicultural Latina trauma therapist grounded in both Indigenous wisdom and modern psychotherapy. Born in the United States and raised between cultures, she spent 18 years as a migrant farmworker and is herself a survivor of trauma. These lived experiences shape her passion for creating pláticas – safe, collaborative conversations where each client’s own strengths and solutions guide the healing process.
Carmen specializes in trauma and cultural healing across the lifespan, with a particular passion for working with adolescents. She provides individual, group, couples, and family counseling, honoring each person’s story, identity, and lived experience. Her work includes supporting survivors of sexual assault, childhood abuse, and domestic violence; conducting immigration-related mental health evaluations for Spanish-speaking clients; and providing forensic mental health assessments and expert testimony. She is committed to culturally responsive, strengths-based care that integrates traditional healing practices with evidence-based approaches.
Carmen is also passionate about collaborating with nonprofit organizations that serve marginalized communities, helping expand access to trauma-informed, culturally grounded mental health services that uplift individuals and families.
Outside of her professional work, Carmen enjoys Latin and Gypsy music and dance, and loves singing with mariachi.
