Matthew Barnes, CNM grew up in rural eastern Oregon and was the first member of his family to attend college and earn a degree. He graduated as a nurse in 2018 and went on to work as a labor and delivery nurse in Colorado Springs for seven and a half years. During much of that time, Matthew had the unique distinction of being the only male labor and delivery nurse in the city.
For four of those years, he worked alongside Peak Vista while patients were delivering at Memorial North. Through that experience, he developed a deep appreciation for the Peak Vista patient population. Providing care to those who needed it most renewed his passion for the field and ultimately inspired him to further his education and become a Certified Nurse Midwife. Matthew credits Peak Vista as the reason he chose to pursue midwifery and the practice he most wanted to join.
Now, he is honored to serve a community he cares deeply about while also being among the small number of male CNMs in the nation.
Outside of work, Matthew enjoys reading, biking, snowboarding, and going on backpacking trips.
