Applying to the PMHNP Fellowship

Application Requirements
Applicants are expected to submit all required items for consideration into the PMHNP Fellowship. All exceptions are at the discretion of the Program Director.

Please note: The Fellowship is philosophically oriented around Benner’s Novice to Expert Model and the definition of the Nurse Practitioner as an expert RN clinician with a strong general nursing background who has received advanced education and training.

Applicants must be:

  • A graduate (by orientation date – with less than 750 hours of supervised prescriptive practice within the PMHNP Specialty, as defined by Colorado DORA) OR

  • A transitioning PMHNP who demonstrates an intent to practice in a safety net practice setting.Transitioning Nurse Practitioners will be considered on an individual basis.

Applicants must have:

  • At least two years of RN work experience.

  • A certification in PMHNP specialty.

Applicants must submit:

  • A complete application to the PMHNP Fellowship.

  • Three letters of recommendation.

    • At least one from a clinic preceptor. 

    • At least one from a work supervisor. 

    • Peer references will not be accepted. 

  • A 500-word essay. It must address the following points/questions:

    • Describe your work history and how it has prepared you to be a psychiatric nurse practitioner. 

    • Share a specific example (professional, academic, or personal) of a time you assisted people from an underserved population.  

    • What are your professional values as a nurse practitioner? 

    • Discuss your expectations and goals of the Fellowship.  

    • Explain how you will contribute to the teaching and learning environment of Fellowship and why you are an ideal candidate for this position.

Applicants must also:

  • Be eligible for Active & Unrestricted Colorado RN & NP license. (This must be complete by start of program).

  • Commit to a 12-month, full-time program.

  • Have a successful completion of pre-employment screen, which includes, but is not limited to, a criminal background check.

  • Fulfill any and all other requirements as determined by Peak Vista Community Health Centers.

Timeline

  • Application Deadline: March 16. 
    The application period opens in the fall. The application deadline includes the full application and all related criterion. You must submit all materials electronically to the email address below. After you submit your application, you will receive an automated email.

  • Interviews: Interviews are scheduled after the application deadline.

  • Notification of Admission: We will notify applicants of their admission following the interviews, in the springtime. There are five positions available each year.
